Lee is an Emeritus Professor of Computer Science at the University of Utah, retiring May 2014 after 34 years as a faculty member. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1969, and his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1975 and was on the faculty there until coming to Utah. His research was in software and hardware systems and was the UofU’s first director of campus networking. During the 1996-97 academic year, he was a Committee Fellow in the intellectual property unit for the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he was the technical advisor during the writing of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). He was Managing Director of Utah Repertory Theater from June 2015 through March 2018, on the KUER advisory board, and was a board member for the Litchfield MN Opera House, where he was responsible for its stage lighting and sound systems. He is a technical advisor to Pioneer Theatre, designing low-cost microprocessors used to control LEDs as part of their sets and props.
